Medical Mayhem

Italy’s doctors are not happy with what’s on TV. The Italian National Federation of Medical Colleges is calling for a ban on medical TV shows. The group says that TV shows like Scrubs, House, ER, and Grey’s Anatomy are medically inaccurate and spread misinformation. Maybe they should play games, we already know they promote scientific thinking and improve the skills of surgeons.

General Patent

The lack of a new Zelda and Mario game at E3 may not be Nintendo’s only problems this year. Hillcrest Labs has filed a complaint for patent infringement with the U.S. International Trade Commission. Hillcrest is seeking to block the import of the Nintendo Wii and the Wiimote. The Hillcrest patents at issue relate to a handheld, three-dimensional pointing device and a navigation interface display system that graphically organizes content for display on a television. First Sony with the rumble controller and now this.

Take 22

Tales of Electronic Arts’ efforts to buy up rival Take-Two Interactive just refuse to die. Here’s the latest. The United States Federal Trade Commission has given its approval for EA to buyout the Grand Theft Auto publisher. That doesn’t mean a takeover is happening, it just means that the FTC won’t object to a takeover should Take-Two finally give in. The FTC found that a merger of EA and Take-Two would not violate U.S. anti-monopoly laws. And so it continues.

Bundle Up

Sony is at work on a Wireless Keypad for the PlayStation 3. The Keypad is designed to fit onto SIXAXIS and DualShock 3 controllers, allowing gamers to enter text directly, instead of bringing up the on-screen keyboard. But with headsets, who types anymore? Additionally, Sony is offering up a new PSP with a wider colour gamut and anti-reflection technology. It will also have a built-in microphone, so you won’t need a headphone to do voice chatting. The new PSP will be released as part of the Ratchet & Clank: Size Matters PSP Entertainment Pack. And finally, Sony revealed the Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune PlayStation 3 bundle, which will include the game and a PS3 with a whopping 160 gigabytes of storage. The bundle will sell for $499 Canadian. The new PSP ships in October, while both the Keypad and PS3 bundle will be available in November.
