Geometry Wars: Retro Evolved 2

Pros

• ...but still very challenging
• About as simple as shooters get...
• Fast-paced action
• Six modes, some of them very different
• Imbedded friends high score table
• Progress just by playing

Cons

• Screen is still so busy it's difficult to see what's going on

Bottom Line

If you like the first Geometry Wars, you'll like the second.

Reviews

"They don't come much simpler than Geometry Wars... or as fun. Bizarre Creations has tweaked the formula and squeezed some more mayhem out of it. There are unlimited multipliers to score really high (though I can't seem to score as high as Victor, who seems to be the office wizard). There are great new modes. Particularly ingenious is the new "Pacifism" mode, which only allows you to attack from safe zones that shrink and disappear. As always GW is a busy game visually, and again I found myself losing my ship. When you get going, the screen looks like LSD Company Ltd. bought out Neon Installers Unlimited and Colossal Fireworks, then there was a nuclear explosion at their head office. Still, the simple gameplay mechanics have been augmented by new strategies, and the play remains as habit-forming as nicotine."
