Bottom Line
If you take out Mario and the Koopa shells, this isn't that far off from a proper baseball sim. |
"There are those who claim that Wii will never be a hardcore gamer's system, unless you're a hardcore Zelda or Metroid fan. Well, here's a game that only needs to substitute Bowser with A-Rod, and suddenly you've got a complex MLB title for Wii. Super Sluggers does a very good job of picking up the running game of baseball, even allowing you to direct which runners advance on a play. You can steal bases. Drag a bunt. You can also lob bombs and turtle shells at fielders trying to track down your pop fly. It is a Mario game after all. In fact, there are cool team moves that can turn a play around fast, like a fielder "attacking" a grounder so that it bounces to a teammate, allowing you to get off a quick throw to a base. Sluggers might not be on the level of Mario Kart, but this is a good integration of Mario mechanics into a real sport. "
