Silent Hill: Homecoming

Pros

• Story definitely intrigues
• Camera and movement are easier to control
• Multiple endings
• Freaky new monsters
• Good graphics and atmosphere

Cons

• New camera system takes away some of the more effective series scares
• Story is a little patchy
• Being able to roll in combat doesn't fell very Silent Hill-ish

Bottom Line

It doesn't quite have the same flavour of the best Silent Hill games, but it has most of the strengths of the series.

Reviews

"There are people who do not want to see changes in their beloved game series. As a fan of Silent Hill, I get nervous when the play around with the formula just like anyone else, but I am open to new ideas. And I have to admit, Homecoming grew on me. The new combat and movement system, while not as cinematic as the previous game, is nice and convenient, and it is cool to see objects get knocked around in a fight with the game's freakish monsters. The story is pretty good and will string you along, though strangely I think that developers Double Helix should have gone even further with making the game their own. I think the game suffers (as did the previous Silent Hills) when they try to expand the mythology of the original game. In any event, Silent Hill is a respectable entry, but for my money the highwater mark is still Silent Hill 2."
