Spectrobes: Beyond the Portals

Pros

• D-Gamer and lots of online options included
• Tons of monsters, missions and content
• Very simple combat
• Better graphics than the first game

Cons

• Combat is repetitive
• Lots of walking back and forth

Bottom Line

Spectrobes remains a good alternative to Pokemon.

Reviews

"The first Spectrobes game was a flawed but interesting monster breeding, trading and combat game. Spectrobes: Beyond the Portals is also an interesting monster game, still flawed, but fortunately less flawed. There is more of what worked, including more ways to excavate fossils in different environments. Combat is much as it was, which is very simple. It's easy to pick up, but I think at the cost of being repetitive, and most of the key decisions happen before the fight even happens (by choosing the right Spectrobes which are strong against the kind of monsters you're fighting). Multiplayer is also deep, with D-Gamer support. I get the feeling the younger squad will appreciate Spectrobes, though veteran monster owners may want something a little more complex."
